30 Days
Before Move

Tour
your home and decide which items are to be discarded or donated to
charity (ask for a receipt for tax purposes) or hold a garage sale.

Contact
doctors/dentists. Notify gym/group memberships. Get copies of
renewable prescriptions.

Transfer children’s school records to new school.
-
Check
homeowner’s insurance policy to see if moving is covered. Ensure
your new home is covered by transferring fire, theft, and other
insurance.
21 Days
Before Move
-
Plan to
consume most food items before the move.

Check
and clear tax assessments.
-
Schedule servicing of major appliances before moving them. Vanguard
can service most normal household appliances or arrange for these
services.

Movers
are unable to move highly flammable items due to regulations. Use
them up or give them away before move.

Complete a change of address form at the Post Office and notify
magazine subscriptions.
14 Days
Before Move
-
Make
your travel reservations for the trip.

Decide
which items you will pack and which items Vanguard will pack. We
provide packing materials and reasonable rates.

Arrange
date to discontinue utilities and delivery services, lawn care, etc.

Arrange
for connection of utilities in hew home. Draw a floor plan of the
new home including placement of furnishings.
7 Days
Before the Move
-
Transfer bank accounts.

Unless
prepaid, arrange to have cash, certified check or money order ready
to pay van operator before goods are unloaded.

Arrange
with local phone company for service in new home and discontinue
service at your present location.

Drain
water from garden hoses and gas from lawn mowers. Start packing
suitcases. Gather jewelry, cash, and other valuable items and
documents to carry with you.
One Day
Before Move
-
Put
cleaning supplies, toiletries, and coffee maker in box to be loaded
last, unloaded first.

Finish
packing suitcases.

Defrost, clean and dry refrigerator.
Moving
Day!
-
Be on
hand all day to answer questions, accompany mover during inventory,
sign bill of lading, and confirm new address
-
Confirm
delivery date. Make final check of every room and storage area.
Lock all windows and doors, and make sure keys are transferred.
